Ghana’s Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has ordered the revocation of mining leases held by Adamus Resources Limited at Akango, Salman, and Nkroful following investigations into illegal mining activities.

The decision, announced on April 26, 2026, comes after findings by the Minerals Commission revealed multiple violations of Ghana’s mining laws, including unauthorized operations and environmental breaches.

Findings Reveal Serious Regulatory Breaches

According to the Ministry, Adamus Resources engaged in illegal subcontracting, operated without required permits, and failed to adhere to approved mining plans. Investigations also indicated the involvement of foreign nationals in unlawful mining activities and operations outside designated concession areas.

Authorities say these actions resulted in environmental degradation, posing risks to water bodies and surrounding communities. The breaches were deemed severe enough to warrant the immediate cancellation of the leases in the national interest.

Legal Consequences and Government Crackdown on Galamsey

The government emphasized that the revocation does not preclude further legal action. Officials noted that criminal prosecution could still be pursued against the company and its leadership under Ghana’s mining laws.

This move forms part of intensified national efforts to combat illegal mining, locally known as “galamsey,” which has become a major environmental and economic concern in Ghana.
