In a bold move to modernize its national security infrastructure and digital resilience, the Government of Ghana has launched a comprehensive security and technology upgrade programme set to transform the country’s surveillance, connectivity, and cyber defense capabilities.

The initiative, announced this December, includes three major components:

Installation of 60,000 surveillance cameras across the country to enhance public safety, monitor critical infrastructure, and support law enforcement operations.
Deployment of 500 additional 4G/5G network sites to expand high-speed internet access and ensure seamless nationwide connectivity, especially in underserved and rural areas.
Establishment of a state-of-the-art Cyber Defense Center in Accra, aimed at strengthening Ghana’s ability to detect, prevent, and respond to digital threats in an increasingly complex cyber landscape.

This strategic investment underscores the government’s commitment to leveraging technology for national development and public protection. It also aligns with Ghana’s broader digital transformation agenda, which seeks to position the country as a regional leader in innovation, cybersecurity, and smart infrastructure.
