Member of Parliament for Bulsa North, Hon. James Agalga, has donated a number of equipment and health-related items to beneficiaries of the National Apprenticeship Programme and health facilities within the constituency, in an initiative aimed at supporting youth skills development and improving healthcare delivery.
The items distributed to apprenticeship trainees included hair dryers and sewing machines, which are expected to provide practical support to young people undergoing training in hairdressing and tailoring.
The beneficiaries comprise young people who, for various reasons, could not continue their formal education and have instead opted to acquire vocational and technical skills that can help them establish livelihoods after completing their training.
Speaking during the distribution, Hon. Agalga indicated that his support would not end with the initial distribution of the sewing machines. He said he intends to make additional sewing machines available so that, upon graduation, trainees can have the necessary equipment to begin working on their own.
The initiative is expected to provide the trainees with an important transition from apprenticeship to self-employment, particularly for those who may otherwise struggle to acquire the equipment needed to start their businesses.
The trainees and their trainers expressed appreciation to the MP for the support and pledged to put the equipment to its intended use. They said the items would contribute to improving practical training and potentially enhance the trainees’ prospects of earning an income after completing their programmes.
Support for Sandema Hospital and CHPS Compounds
In addition to supporting the apprenticeship programme, Hon. James Agalga donated health-related items to strengthen the capacity of the Sandema Hospital and various Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds in the area.
He donated hospital beds for the Sandema Hospital. The donation comes at a time when the facility is faced with an inadequate number of beds, making the additional equipment significant to the hospital’s ability to accommodate patients.
The MP said the support to the health sector would continue, adding that more hospital and other health-related equipment would be provided in the near future.
The Director of Health for Bulsa North expressed gratitude to Hon. Agalga for the intervention, saying the donated items would contribute to improving healthcare delivery within the municipality.
According to the Health Director, strengthening health facilities with the necessary equipment is essential to ensuring that health workers can provide effective services to residents.
Agalga Clarifies Source of Funding
Hon. Agalga also clarified that the items donated were not purchased from his share of the Common Fund.
He said although he was prepared to support his constituents, he would not disclose the source of the funds used to acquire the items.
The MP’s latest intervention combines support for youth skills development with assistance to the local health sector. While the apprenticeship equipment is intended to help trainees acquire practical skills and eventually establish their own livelihoods, the health equipment is expected to address some of the logistical challenges confronting health facilities in Bulsa North.
The donations therefore form part of broader efforts to provide practical support to young people and strengthen essential services within the constituency.
