The Speaker of Parliament has officially declared the Kpandai parliamentary seat vacant following a High Court ruling that annulled the constituency’s election results and ordered a fresh poll.
A formal notice issued by the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahimah Djietror, and addressed to the Electoral Commission (EC) stated that Parliament was acting in compliance with Article 112(5) of the 1992 Constitution.
According to the letter, the vacancy arises directly from an order issued by the Tamale High Court on November 24, 2025, instructing that the Kpandai parliamentary elections be rerun.
The Clerk wrote:
“I, EBENEZER AHIMAH DJIETROR, the Clerk to Parliament, DO HEREBY FORMALLY NOTIFY you of the occurrence of a vacancy in the membership of Parliament, occasioned by the Order of the High Court, Tamale, for a rerun of the Kpandai Parliamentary Elections… This notification is pursuant to the service of a court Order on the Clerk to Parliament as the 4th Respondent in the suit.”
Court Cites Irregularities in Voting and Collation
The ruling by His Lordship Justice Emmanuel Brew Plange followed petitions alleging significant irregularities in voting and collation processes during the previous parliamentary election in the constituency.
The court concluded that the integrity of the election had been compromised and therefore ordered a complete rerun.
EC Directed to Conduct Rerun Within 30 Days
The High Court instructed the Electoral Commission to organise the new election within 30 days from Monday, November 24, 2025.
This development triggers preparations for another competitive contest in the Kpandai constituency as political parties and candidates prepare to return to the campaign trail.
