President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated that he has no intention of seeking a third presidential term, stating that the mandate he received from Ghanaians was for only one additional term in office.
His remarks come amid ongoing legal proceedings before Ghana’s Supreme Court seeking an interpretation of the constitutional provisions governing presidential term limits. While expressing confidence in his understanding of the Constitution, the President maintained that he fully respects the authority of the country’s highest court to provide a definitive legal interpretation.
Mahama Affirms Commitment to Current Mandate
Speaking on the issue, President Mahama said the Ghanaian electorate entrusted him with one more term to govern the country, and his priority remains delivering on the promises he made during the election campaign.
According to him, his administration is focused on implementing policies that improve the lives of citizens rather than engaging in debates over future electoral ambitions.
He stressed that his attention remains firmly on fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted to him by the people of Ghana.

The President acknowledged that a case has been filed before the Supreme Court seeking clarification on the constitutional provisions relating to presidential tenure.
Although he believes the Constitution is sufficiently clear on the matter, Mahama emphasised that it is the constitutional responsibility of the Supreme Court to interpret the law whenever questions arise.
He indicated that he would respect whatever decision the Court ultimately delivers, underscoring his commitment to Ghana’s democratic institutions and the rule of law.
