The Ghana Police Service has intensified its nationwide fight against crime and drug peddling, leading to the arrest of eleven suspects in separate but coordinated operations in the Upper East and Central Regions.
Four Arrested in Paga Border Operation
In the Upper East Region, the Regional Police Command arrested four suspects during a targeted swoop on criminal hideouts and suspected drug peddling locations in Paga on December 18, 2025.
The suspects, Kofi Boateng, Eric Owusu, and Godwin Agosa, all porters, and Abdul Aziz Bukari, a driver’s mate, were arrested at various locations along the Paga border.
Items retrieved during the operation included:
- Eight jackpot gaming machines
- Thirteen rolls of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp
- Three mobile phones
- Three scissors
- Three lighters
- One power bank
- One empty phone case
- GH¢25.00 in cash
Police say the suspects are currently in custody assisting with investigations and will be arraigned before court if found culpable.
Seven Arrested in Cape Coast Drug Crackdown
In a separate intelligence-led operation, the Central Regional Police Command arrested seven suspects in the Cape Coast Metropolis on Saturday, December 13, 2025, as part of efforts to clamp down on narcotic drug peddling and related criminal activities.
The suspects, Robert Kobbina, Abu Issifu, Janet Mensah, Emmanuel Quarshie, Osei Boateng, Animful Emmanuel, and Charity Nkrumah, were arrested at various locations identified as drug hotspots.
At a known drug base at Effutu, police arrested Robert Kobbina and Abu Issifu. A search on Robert Kobbina led to the retrieval of assorted narcotic drugs and related items, including:
- Sachets and tablets of timaking
- Tdrona
- Royal fart
- Dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp
- Tobacco products, lighters, and assorted cigarettes
The operation was later extended to Poly Amisano and Nkanfoa. At Poly Amisano, police arrested five additional suspects. A search conducted at a drinking spot operated by Janet Mensah uncovered:
- Large quantities of cigarettes and tobacco products
- Lighters
- Three jackpot gaming machines
An additional four jackpot machines were retrieved from Nkanfoa.
Police Reaffirm Commitment to Law Enforcement
All seven suspects in the Central Region operation are currently in police custody assisting investigations.
The Ghana Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug trafficking, illegal gambling, and related criminal activities, urging the public to support law enforcement efforts by providing timely and credible information.
