The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested six suspects in connection with the alleged murder of a 26-year-old tricycle rider, Akolbila Blessing, at Dulugu-Zuarungu in the Bolgatanga East District.
The arrests followed an alleged assault on the rider after a disagreement reportedly arose over sales from the tricycle he was operating.
The incident has sparked concern in the community as police continue investigations to establish what led to the death and the individual roles of the suspects.
Six suspects arrested over tricycle rider’s death
The suspects have been identified by the police as Avandiba Atubiga Kante, 26; Atua Atombire Mpika, 40; Amale Nyaaba Nicholas, 30; Atua Ayinbotima, 22; Atuah Nsobila Prosper, 21; and Ayine Albert Sunday, 39.
According to preliminary police investigations, the incident occurred on August 27, 2026, after Blessing allegedly failed to account for sales to the owner of the tricycle, identified as Mpika.
The disagreement reportedly escalated, with the six suspects allegedly attacking and beating the rider.
Police said investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the respective roles of the suspects.
Tricycle rider found unconscious
The situation took a tragic turn the following day when Blessing was reportedly found unconscious in his room.
He was subsequently taken to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital for medical attention. However, he was pronounced dead on arrival, according to the police.
The six arrests form part of investigations into the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and the rider’s subsequent death.
Police investigate alleged debt dispute
The police have linked the alleged assault to a disagreement over sales from the tricycle.
However, investigations are still underway to establish exactly what transpired between the victim and the suspects before the alleged attack.
Police are also expected to determine the individual involvement of each suspect as the investigation progresses.
The suspects have not been convicted of any offence, and the allegations against them remain subject to investigation and due process.
Police caution against violence
The Upper East Regional Police Command has cautioned residents against resorting to violence when resolving disputes.
The Command urged members of the public to report disagreements to the appropriate authorities and seek peaceful and lawful means of resolving disputes.
It also assured the public of its commitment to enforcing the law and bringing anyone found culpable before justice.
The police have further appealed to members of the public who may have information that could assist the investigation to come forward.
Investigations into the Zuarungu tricycle rider murder case are continuing as police work to establish the circumstances that resulted in Blessing’s death.
