Ghana’s Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, has announced that ten Agenda 111 hospital projects will be completed in 2026, marking a major milestone in the government’s healthcare expansion agenda.

Addressing Parliament on February 3, 2026, during the resumption of the House, the Bawku Central MP outlined a broad range of interventions the government plans to implement by the end of the year, describing 2026 as a transformative period for national development.

According to Mr. Ayariga, the government will commence the construction of six new regional hospitals this year, alongside two district hospitals in Bole and Shama, while pushing to complete the selected Agenda 111 projects across the country.

“Six new regional hospitals will commence construction this year, alongside two district hospitals at Bole and Shama, while ten (10) Agenda 111 hospital projects will be completed,” he told the House.

He further disclosed that major ongoing health infrastructure projects, including La General Hospital, Effia Nkwantang Hospital, Komfo Anokye Maternity Block, and the Ashanti Regional Hospital, will continue without interruption.

In addition, the government plans to establish diagnostic and treatment centres in major hospitals through Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) to improve access to specialised healthcare services nationwide.

On healthcare financing, the Majority Leader revealed that the government has earmarked GHC2.3 billion for the Mahama Care initiative, while GHC9 billion has been allocated to settle National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) claims, a move expected to strengthen healthcare delivery and ease financial pressure on health facilities.

“These initiatives collectively position 2026 as a year of tangible progress, improving education, healthcare, social intervention and economic opportunities for all Ghanaians,” Mr. Ayariga stressed.

He concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to inclusive development, stating that 2026 will be a transformative year for Ghana across all sectors, driven by strategic investments in infrastructure, healthcare, and social protection.
