Ghana and Canada Strengthen Educational Partnership with $30 Million Investment in Youth and Skills Development

The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to advancing educational cooperation with Canada during a courtesy call by the Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana, Her Excellency Myriam Montrat.

In his remarks, Mr. Iddrisu expressed deep appreciation for Canada’s long-standing support in Ghana’s development agenda, especially in the education sector.

“Canada’s dedication to poverty alleviation and education has been remarkable, and Ghana has greatly benefited from this partnership,” the Minister noted.

He also emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between higher education institutions in both countries, highlighting the importance of academic exchange, innovation, and skills development.

In response, H.E. Montrat reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to youth empowerment and skills training, announcing a major funding initiative:

“Our focus is to support Ghana in developing a skilled workforce that can compete globally,” she stated. “Canada has committed 30 million Canadian dollars towards competency-based training and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Ghana.”

Welcoming this announcement, Haruna Iddrisu stressed that such investments are critical in reshaping Ghana’s educational system:

“Strengthening technical education and laying a solid foundation for learning are key to Ghana’s educational transformation, and we look forward to deepening this partnership with Canada,” he added.

The meeting concluded with both Ghana and Canada reaffirming their shared vision of inclusive, quality education that prepares young people with the skills of the future.
