The Bulsa Traditional Council has formally requested that the newly established 12th Mechanised Battalion Barracks in Sandema be named in honor of the late Wing Commander Peter Baafemi Anala.
The distinguished native of the area tragically lost his life in a military helicopter crash on August 6, and the proposal seeks to immortalize his service and sacrifice to the nation.
In a letter dated August 13 and addressed to Lieutenant General William Agyapong, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Paramount Chief of the Builsa Traditional Area, Nab Azagsuk Azantilow II, made the request on behalf of the chiefs and people of Buluk. The letter highlights the deep respect the community holds for Wing Commander Anala and their desire to see his legacy preserved.
Wing Commander Anala was one of eight military and government personnel who died when a Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crashed en route to an anti-illegal mining operation in Obuasi. The incident, described by President John Mahama as a national disaster, has caused profound shock and sorrow across the country.
The proposed naming of the barracks would serve as a lasting tribute to Wing Commander Anala’s dedication and bravery, ensuring his name remains a source of pride for the Builsa people and an inspiration for future generations of soldiers.
