Feeding the Future: Agric ministry Forges Strategic Agricultural Alliance with Belarus

In a bold move toward national food self-sufficiency, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food, Hon. John Dumelo, has held high-level discussions with top officials from the Republic of Belarus. The meeting, which included the Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food, marks a pivotal moment for Ghana’s “Agric Revolution.”

The discussions were centered on a multi-pronged strategy to modernize the local agricultural landscape, moving away from traditional methods toward a high-tech, industrialized future.

A primary focus of the bilateral talks was the rapid expansion of the local poultry industry. By leveraging Belarusian expertise, the Ministry aims to scale up production to meet domestic demand and reduce reliance on imports.

Crucial to this expansion is Agricultural Mechanization. Hon. John Dumelo emphasized that providing farmers with state-of-the-art machinery is no longer a luxury but a necessity for building a resilient economy. The partnership aims to bring advanced Belarusian equipment to Ghanaian soil, empowering local farmers to produce more with greater efficiency.

One of the most exciting outcomes of the meeting is the plan to establish a state-of-the-art dairy processing factory in Ghana. This facility will not only process milk but will serve as a hub for value addition, creating jobs and ensuring that Ghanaian-made dairy products reach every corner of the country.

To sustain these developments, both nations agreed on robust exchange programs. These programs will facilitate knowledge sharing, allowing Ghanaian agricultural experts and students to learn from Belarus’s advanced systems while sharing local insights.

Core Pillars of the Ghana-Belarus Partnership

Strategic PillarIntended Outcome
Poultry ModernizationScaling up local bird production to slash import costs.
Agric MechanizationDeploying advanced machinery for large-scale commercial farming.
Dairy ProcessingBuilding a world-class factory to boost local milk production.

Reflecting on the meeting, Hon. John Dumelo reiterated his commitment to the Ghanaian people, noting that these steps are vital for creating a self-sufficient agricultural sector. The partnership with Belarus is a testament to the government’s proactive approach to food security.

As the Deputy Minister famously says, “I dey 4 u”—and this latest diplomatic win proves that he is indeed standing with the farmers and the youth to secure Ghana’s breadbasket.
