Karren Brady Explains Mohammed Kudus’s Transfer to Tottenham

West Ham United’s Vice Chair, Karren Brady, has revealed the club’s key reasons for selling Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus to rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

The move, which saw Kudus join Spurs for an estimated fee of £55 million in the summer transfer window, was a difficult but necessary decision, according to Brady.

Speaking on TalkSport, Brady explained that Kudus’s performance during the 2024-2025 season was a significant factor. “He didn’t have a particularly good season for West Ham last year by his own standards. So we looked to move on,” she said.

Financial Rules and Sustainability

Beyond performance, Brady highlighted the financial pressures facing the club. The need to comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) played a crucial role in the decision to sell a key player.

“It’s always difficult to lose players that you want to keep. But the financial restraints and the PSR and all the rules and regulations in football mean that you have to do some trading,” Brady explained. She noted that clubs often have to sell players to fund new acquisitions while staying within financial guidelines.

Kudus, who made 80 appearances and scored 19 goals for the Hammers, has already shown his value at Tottenham. In his recent debut, he provided two assists, hinting at the impact he is expected to have with his new team.
