President John Dramani Mahama has announced the establishment of a 12-member Presidential Advisory Group on the Economy (PAGE), a high-level body expected to provide strategic and independent economic advice to support Ghana’s recovery and long-term growth.

The announcement was made in a statement issued on Thursday, January 15, 2026, by the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu. According to the statement, the creation of PAGE forms part of government’s broader commitment to restoring macroeconomic stability, strengthening fiscal sustainability, and accelerating inclusive, job-rich economic growth.

The Advisory Group will play a key role in supporting the implementation of flagship government initiatives, including the 24-Hour Economy, the Accelerated Export Development Programme, and the wider Reset Agenda aimed at repositioning Ghana’s economy for resilience and sustained development.

Drawing on Expertise for Economic Governance

Government explained that the establishment of PAGE reflects President Mahama’s determination to draw on deep national and international expertise to enhance sound economic governance. The Group is expected to support strategic policy coordination and promote evidence-based decision-making as the country navigates current economic challenges.

By assembling experienced professionals, the Presidency aims to strengthen confidence in economic management while positioning Ghana to respond effectively to both domestic and global economic pressures.

Mandate and Responsibilities of PAGE

According to the statement, the Presidential Advisory Group on the Economy will provide independent, non-partisan, and strategic economic advice directly to the President.

Its key responsibilities include:

  • Providing strategic counsel on macroeconomic management, fiscal consolidation, debt sustainability, and ensuring coherence between fiscal and monetary policies.
  • Advising on structural transformation, industrial development, competitiveness, and export-led growth strategies.
  • Offering guidance on sectoral development, private sector expansion, investment mobilisation, and sustainable job creation.
  • Supporting the design, sequencing, and implementation of the 24-Hour Economy, the Accelerated Export Development Programme, and other productivity-enhancing national reforms.
  • Conducting periodic assessments of Ghana’s economic performance and proposing policy adjustments or corrective measures where necessary.
  • Contributing expert input to Ghana’s economic negotiations and engagements with bilateral and multilateral development partners, international financial institutions, and investors.

Direct Reporting to the President

PAGE will report directly to the President and submit advisory memoranda and policy briefs as and when requested. The Group will also provide periodic strategic reviews to guide economic decision-making at the highest level.

The Advisory Group will be chaired by President John Dramani Mahama, underscoring the importance government places on close coordination between expert advice and executive action.
