Ghana’s Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang delivered a compelling keynote address at the National Dialogue on Decentralization and Responsive Governance, held under the theme “Resetting Decentralization for Responsive Governance and Effective Service Delivery.”
The Vice President emphasized that decentralization is a strategic tool for improving governance and service delivery across Ghana. She reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to bringing governance closer to the people, citing the deployment of resources through the District Assemblies Common Fund and the push for the election of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).
“Our approach is increasingly data-driven to ensure fairness and maximum impact,” she stated, highlighting the importance of identifying local challenges and ensuring that citizens feel the presence of Government in their daily lives.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang urged that the outcomes of the dialogue be translated into bold and practical policies that empower citizens and make them active participants in decision-making. She also encouraged Ghana to learn from neighboring countries as it strengthens its local governance frameworks.
The event marks a renewed national commitment to inclusive governance, with stakeholders from across the country and development partners in attendance.
