In a significant move to enhance governance and quality in teacher education, Education Minister Hon. Haruna Iddrisu has officially inaugurated the Governing Councils of four public Colleges of Education. The institutions include Al-Faruq College of Education, Agogo Presbyterian Women’s College of Education, Enchi College of Education, and Gbewaa College of Education.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Minister emphasized the critical role of governing councils in shaping the strategic direction of teacher training institutions. He noted that effective governance is essential for ensuring accountability, fostering academic excellence, and improving infrastructure across the colleges.
“Strong and visionary councils are the backbone of institutional progress. They must lead with integrity, collaborate with stakeholders, and ensure the production of competent teachers who will drive Ghana’s education reforms,” Hon. Iddrisu stated.
The newly inaugurated councils are expected to provide oversight and policy guidance that aligns with the government’s broader education reform agenda. This includes enhancing the quality of teacher preparation, integrating modern pedagogical tools, and expanding access to quality education across the country.
The Minister also called on council members to prioritize innovation and inclusivity in their decision-making processes, ensuring that the colleges remain responsive to the evolving needs of Ghana’s education sector.
This initiative is part of the Ministry of Education’s broader commitment to building a resilient and future-ready teaching workforce capable of delivering transformative learning outcomes.
